Humphrys, Devlin send Hearts into Scottish Cup quarters

Stephen Humphrys has followed up his goal-of-the-season certainty with an opener at Hamilton as Hearts moved into the Scottish Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 victory.

With top goalscorer Lawrence Shankland suspended following his red card at Easter Road in the previous round, Humphrys again took centre-stage, six days after scoring from his own half against Dundee United.

The striker fired home from a tight angle with the help of some suspect goalkeeping to put Hearts in front in the 29th minute of a one-sided first half on Friday.

Accies made a game of it in the second half but substitute Cammy Devlin put the game beyond doubt with 11 minutes remaining to the delight of 3,727 Hearts fans in the 4,731 crowd, a record away attendance at New Douglas Park.

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson hailed the goal threat of Humphrys, theÂ on-loan Wigan striker who bagged his fifth goal of the season.

Fresh from scoring from his own half against Dundee United last weekend, Humphrys had several other efforts at goal in a one-sided first half.

Neilson said: "He's a finisher - he gets into the box and he can shift it left and right-foot and score. There's a lot of stuff to polish up on but he's a threat."

Young Socceroos defender Kye Rowles and striker Garang Kuol were unused substitutes, but Nathaniel Atkinson came off the bench to secure the victory.
