Weaving stories at Converge On the Goulburn

By Shepparton News

Weaving Our Stories Together and Stories Through Clay were two free community art activities designed and delivered by members of Splinter Contemporary Artists at Converge On the Goulburn last month.

The results of these activities will be displayed in a new exhibition at Kyabram Town Hall Gallery, with the title Sharing Stories.

Splinter Contemporary Artists encourage everyone to come along and see the completed woven forms, images, words and photographs.

The activities involved participants weaving coloured lengths of fabric and yarn through suspended Murray clay pots and transforming balls of clay into bird forms.

Both activities elicited art-making and story-sharing by members of the community, with each small act contributing to a larger outcome of art, understanding and connection.

Alongside Splinter Contemporary Artists, members of Goulburn Valley Writers Group and Jean-Michel Batakane were invited to witness and respond to these activities, creating new written works and photographs to be exhibited alongside the woven forms in Sharing Stories.

Sharing Stories at Kyabram Town Hall Gallery in Allan St, Kyabram, will officially open on Saturday, May 18, at 2pm.

The exhibition continues until August 5.
