Led superbly by skipper Oscar Willis the young outfit (7 bottom age and 2 Under 14 players) have twelve players who are able to play their role either with the bat, in the field or when bowling.
This is further strengthened via a great team spirit where teammates enjoy each other’s company and importantly celebrate the success of their teammates.
Set the task of beating powerhouse Wangaratta Rovers in the last game it was opening bowlers Rory Bartlett and Caleb Mitchell who did the early damage picking up 3 early wickets to set their opposition on the back foot.
Both boys bowled a full length which ensured the players had to play and both young speedsters enjoyed the rewards.
It was Austin Willett who stole the show bowling his crafty off-spin to great effect, he combined brilliantly with Zac Fraser behind the stumps to create 2 stumpings and 1 catch behind the wicket. Willett finished off his spell with a fourth wicket when he rattled the stumps, leaving the Rovers batsmen bemused.
Set a small total skipper Oscar Willis led the way with a skilful 28 runs against one of the best attacks in the competition.
Willis was able to punish the loose ball whilst running well between the wickets, the skipper looks set to have a big impact on the finals series.
Willis was well supported by the patient Jobe Kennedy (11 runs) and the flamboyant Zac Banch who was able to hit the ball to all parts of the ground late in the innings.
