YMGCR Mens Nine Holers
Tuesday saw 67 players competing in perfect conditions in the opening round of the Merv Stuart Memorial trophy.
On the Blue it was Tony Evans who led the charge with a solid 20 points. Finishing one point ahead of Dominic "the Diamond" Fotia with Peter Mansfield, Normie Knott and Steve Hutchinson - who may have scored better had he not muddled up his water bottle with his Plum brandy on 18 pts. Corny Boers was on fire and it was only some uncharacteristic putting mistakes that reduced his final score but still had him leading a group of four with Ray Minette, Kerry Pendergast and Les Garbutt on a more than respectable 17 points.
On the Red it was Billy Rapkins who beat Rod Sisson on a countback on 19 points to win the day. John Traunini carried over his good form from Finley on the Monday with 18 points to finish 3 points ahead of a group of six golfers on 15 points led by Bill Wyatt, Billy Hidson, Ian Harbrow, Allan Foord, Evan James and Ray Massey.
Thursdays second round saw Brendan O'Farrell take the honours on the Blue with a sparkling 21 points thanks to some great putting whilst snapping at his heels on 20 was Dave Murray one point ahead of the threesome of John Haigh, Allan Foord and Bill Rapkins.
On the Red it was Kerry Pendergast winning the day with a very solid 19 points edging Corny Boers who continued his great form including winning both nearest the pins on the Red.
Following close behind him was a group led by Les Garbutt, Dominic Fotia and Bomber Mitchell.
The overall winner will be revealed at the Presentation Day lunch.
