A rivalry match that did not disappoint! The Pigeons came out of the blocks hot exposing an experienced opposition in Corowa.
A few unforced errors in the second saw the Roos take charge with Yarra having to play catch up for the remainder of the game.
Cassar led a brand-new attacking combination illustrating to all those watching the true definition of ‘tough’.
Defensive pressure that would have sent most into early retirement saw Maddy Allen rise to the challenge giving Corowa minimal opportunity for rebounds with her shooting accuracy.
Fed and fought again effortlessly by the superstar in Kylie Leslie - is there any position this woman can’t play?!
The forever consistent playmaker in Laura Irvine continued to create headaches for her opponent and teammates alike. Her hands over pressure saw turnovers by the Roos giving another scoring opportunity for the Pigeons.
The inclusion of Tilly Kennedy halfway through provided exactly the refresh Yarra needed with precision feeding into the goal ring.
Anna Grinter and Laura Ryan continued to prove again why they are two defenders you don’t want to line up against.
Tips and taps in every direction causing Corowa to question and mix up every pass. Their strong drives out of defence meant a quick transition into the attack leaving the Roos on the back foot.
Liv Lovell pulled in some tough rebounds down back offering another opportunity to add to the scoreboard for her teammates.

B Grade
Corowa Rutherglen 39 defeated Yarrawonga 38.
On a cool Sunday morning, the B grade girls came up against a fierce and agile Corowa side, with fresh combinations amongst the playing group.
The first three quarters saw the growing defence combination of Hannah Symes and Tess Byrne combine well with each other to provide many turnovers for the team.
The last term saw Under 17s Chloe Wheaton seamlessly slide into the defence end with a stellar performance.
The goaling end saw Ellie Dickins and Abbey Jones step up against a tough defensive outfit, and Delaynee Moon coming on to impress in the last, making her first appearance for B grade in the navy and white.
The mid-court saw many rotations, allowing for fresh legs each quarter against a solid outfit with Emily McNamara and Amity Drayton providing strong drives onto the top of the circle and Jedda Nolen limiting her opponents’ movements.
Maddie Kennedy had class through the centre all game, with her smarts providing slick feeding into the goal circle.
The game ended with the Yarra girls going down by 1, with Hannah Symes and Emily McNamara taking out the awards.
C Grade
Corowa Rutherglen 34 drew with Yarrawonga 34.
Starting off the day with a few mishaps, C grade went out onto the court ready to take on Corowa. They kept their heads held high throughout the whole game.
Although they were down for the duration of the game, they showed resilience, never stopped fighting and eventually turned the score into a draw in the last minute.
Corowa had a very strong and physical team, but the 3 defenders Sarah, Macey and Clare worked together smashing out 4 quarters giving it their all.
The mid courters Suzy and Zoe working hard with pressure down the court in defence and bringing the ball down the court into shooters Eliana, Mardie and Dee rotating in the ring putting up shots which brought the Pigeons to an even score.
Under 17s
Corowa Rutherglen 36 defeated Yarrawonga 33.
A gutsy come from behind effort by the 17s who were narrowly defeated by the Roos in a rainy match.
