After being in lockdown this time last year and unable to have their appeal day, the Tungamah Social Club were ready and willing for this year’s appeal.
The hugely successful car rally saw teams arriving from 10am and keen to hit the road in this popular event.
The course organised by Monica and Mark Brewer took teams through Youarang, Burramine, Telford and back into Tungamah answering questions along the way. Team ‘Pearce’ from Wilby won the rally in a time of 53 minutes.
From 11am onwards the crowd grew in the beer garden of the Tungamah Hotel where there were stalls, raffles, food, drinks and music from Elvis impersonator, Michael Montalti.
The excitement grew for the annual yabby race with yabbies being auctioned and fetching up to $150 each.
Bruce Beaton commentated the event with the winning yabby belonging to the Duffy girls, who are now etched on the Good Friday yabby race shield, kindly donated by the Tungamah Garage. Kids also joined in the fun with their own yabby race.
The afternoon saw the hammer go down on the goods and services auction with Damien Doyle and Bruce Beaton doing a tremendous job, especially to not lose their voices despite having to auction over 90 items. The day, without a doubt was a huge success.
Greg Ford, Tungamah Social Club president said he was overwhelmed at the support the day received from locals and visitors.
He commented that visitors camping at the Boosey Creek who came to join in the day said they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were amazed at what a small town can achieve.
What an achievement it was too, the Tungamah Social Club raised just over $33,000 for the Royal Children’s Hospital. Greg Ford said he was very pleased with the amount raised and thankful to all involved in making the day so successful.
Greg said he is very grateful for the continued support from local businesses who despite having a tough year in 2020 during Covid-19 lockdowns, were still more than willing to donate goods and services for Good Friday.
He is also thankful to social club members who helped leading up to and on the day, as well as the people of Tungamah. Greg also acknowledged the amazing staff at the Tungamah Hotel as well as publican Paul Basse for the venue.
The Social Club will now focus on raising money for Variety Kids through their Friday night meat tray raffle from now until the Variety Bash in August.
