The Northern Country Women’s League has announced its final squad for Sunday’s interleague clash against Central Victoria Football League at Deakin Reserve.
There has been a strong contingent named in the 25-player squad, with the best footballers from the region handpicked to represent the league.
All eight clubs are represented in the finalised squad, which was cut from 49 to 25, with Nathalia and Echuca leading the way with five players each.
Echuca’s Jodie Lake has been named captain, with Shepparton’s Bree Davison to be her deputy.
Lake’s captaincy follows on from last year’s appointment, in a game the NCWL lost by 15 points.
The NCWL has stuck with the same coaches from last year too, with Echuca’s Mick McInnes and Shepparton’s John Wilson to co-coach the side.
Meanwhile, Kerang’s Ash Wise will step into an assistant coaching role .
McInnes was proud of the depth to choose from this year and said he was happy with the final squad.
‘‘It was so great to have so much depth to pick from again in this year’s initial squad,’’ he said.
‘‘We feel we’ve got some wonderful talent to showcase women’s football in our region and (we) look forward to an exciting clash with CVFLW.’’
Wilson said the side learned plenty from last year’s debut match and conceded they went in unsure of what to expect.
‘‘Last year we went in not quite knowing what the CVFLW looked like,’’ he said.
‘‘(We) learnt a lot from last season’s debut match, so we are ready to give it all we’ve got.’’
Before the interleague match, there will be a curtain-raiser match between youth girls sides Shepparton-Notre and Shepparton United.
The interleague contest will begin from 1pm at Deakin Reserve.
