Three Shepparton Netball Association teams will battle the region’s best tomorrow at the North-East Association Championships.
The talented youngsters will take on other associations tomorrow in Wodonga, including sides from the Murray, Kyabram District, Picola and District and Goulburn Valley netball leagues.
Association players, who form part of two teams at the under-13 level as well as one at under-15, have been training hard for months.
Squad co-ordinator Lyn Flynn said the teams were ready for potentially the biggest tournament of the year.
‘‘The teams are selected in early February, the girls come a trial at the SNA and we select 18 girls for the the under-13 sides and 10 girls for the under-15s,’’ she said.
‘‘Once they’re selected, they start training and that’s been going for three months now.
‘‘There’s tournaments throughout, the girls have played four tournaments in Strathdale, Shepparton, Morong and Echuca, but it’s all in preparation for the association championships in Wodonga.’’
And Flynn said tomorrow’s festivities were even bigger for the under-13 gold team, able to progress to next month’s state finals day with a grand final appearance in the regional section.
‘‘They are (excited) and if one of the under-13 teams (under-13 gold) progress to the grand final, they’ll qualify for the state titles in Melbourne,’’ she said.
‘‘So they’re extra excited, but the other two teams are also ready to go, and they’ve still got the opportunity to play off in a grand final.
‘‘It’s also an opportunity to be talent identified and make an academy side.’’
