Goulburn Valley Hockey Association well represented at Junior Country Championships

By Tyler Maher

Hockey Victoria’s Junior Country Championships have come and gone for another season, and the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association was well represented across the grades.

In the under-18 girls’ competition, Goulburn Valley won a playoff for third spot against Sunraysia 2-1.

It came after wins against North Central Hockey Association (2-1) and Wimmera Hockey Association (4-0) and a 1-all draw against Sunraysia earlier in the tournament.

●The under-15 boys were unlucky not to progress to the final after a 1-all draw against Hockey Ballarat in the semi-final before falling 3-1 to Hockey Central Vic in the third-placed playoff.

Goulburn Valley had a mixed bag in the pool stage, winning two of its games, losing one and drawing another.

●In the under-15 girls division, Goulburn Valley drew nil-all against NCHA in the fifth-placed playoff.

The girls battled hard to snare a win across the weekend, but had to settle for three draws among a couple of losses.

●Goulburn Valley had a big 3-0 win against Warrnambool District Hockey Association in the under-13 girls’ ninth-placed playoff to finish their weekend on a high.

With plenty of fresh faces in the team the girls did well to snare a draw in their first game before coming up against some strong opposition.

●The under-13 boys finished the championships in fifth place after a 1-0 triumph against East Gippsland Hockey Association.

Remarkably the side went undefeated for the weekend, but still missed out on a higher classification battle after starting with three draws.
