Shepparton’s Little Athletics Club is now home to three state champions, after the club’s dominant showing at last weekend’s Victorian Little Athletics State Track and Field Championships.

The local club had five athletes — from a contingent of 21 — claim eight medals at the state championships at Casey Fields in Cranbourne.

Star junior short-distance runner, Antonio Vaitohi, claimed the under-16 boys gold medal in the 100m and 200m events, showcasing his prowess across the two distances.

The youngster recorded a time of 11.61 seconds in the 100m race and a time of 22.58 seconds in the 200m.

High jumper Harriet Gall claimed gold in the under-13 girls event, registering a height of 1.52m in the final.

Jacob Dimit recorded a gold medal-winning time of 13.65 in the under-12 boys 100m event, winning by 0.1 of a second.

Alice Ludlow collected two silver medals in the under-11 girls javelin and shot put events, with distances of 19.14m and 11.01m respectively.

Gretel Holmes recorded a time of 26.24 seconds in the 200m and 0.21 of a second off running under one minute in the 400m, finishing third in both under-15 girls events.

Christian Vaitohi has been selected in the Little Athletics Victorian team for next month’s Australian Little Athletics Championships.

The team-based competition requires athletes to score points from the placing they receive.

The under-13 competitor is a member of the Victorian team comprised of 32 boys and girls from across the state.

The Australian Little Athletics Championships are at Domain Athletics Centre in Tasmania on April 27 and 28.
