Kyabram is celebrating back-to-back Division Two Goulburn Valley Bowls Division titles after seeing off Euroa by four shots in yesterday’s grand final.
Third after the home and away season, the Power stormed to the pennant with three consecutive wins, beating Shepparton Golf (75-55) and Shepparton Park (84-71) before seeing off Euroa 59-55 in the decider.
Team manager Judy Wright said her side’s belief was never questioned, and she referred to the oldest sporting cliche in the book — one week at a time.
‘‘It was just by playing in our teams right through the finals and staying with it,’’ she said.
‘‘We came here (to the Tatura greens) for practice, and I think that might have done it.
‘‘We just played one week at a time, we were doing it cruising but we knew this one would be a tough one. It was a very good game with Euroa and we congratulate them for giving us a tough game.’’
Euroa, seeking its highest-division pennant victory since the inception of the GVBD in the 2010-11 season, had finished the regular season second on the ladder and earned its spot in the decider with a semi-final win against the Parkers.
Wright said seeing off the opposition had not been an easy task.
‘‘We were sailing along quite well, but then they came out after lunch and got going,’’ she said.
‘‘That made it pretty close until the end and our last two rinks, they had to hold on to win.’’
And while it required a late charge to seal the title from third, Wright said her side’s campaign had been quality throughout.
‘‘It has been a great season, the twos has always been solid, and we’re very happy with it all,’’ she said.
‘‘We’ve got lovely greens and a lovely club and we all gel together and try and do our best. That’s all you can ask.’’
