Cricket Shepparton has scheduled a replay of the abandoned Twenty20 A-grade semi-final between Kyabram and Northerners for tonight.
Conflicting rules meant neither side knew who would progress to the final to face Katandra as late as Sunday afternoon, before an agreement was reached to reschedule the abandoned game.
As a result the final has been pushed back to Thursday, scheduled for 7pm at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve.
After rain washed out last Wednesday’s game, Kyabram was initially awarded the victory due to its higher net run rate, before Northerners queried the verdict, having accrued more points in the preliminary stage.
However, the Redbacks were denied an opportunity to win their second game of the group stage, with their game against Mooroopna also having been washed out.
A Cricket Shepparton statement said negotiations for rescheduling the contest had started as soon as Jets officials had questioned the initial decision.
‘‘After Northerners queried the decision based on the fact they have won two games in their pool, the CS executive offered to replay the game on Sunday, February 10, however this offer was declined as they held their annual ball on Saturday,’’ the statement read.
‘‘As unfortunately has been the case on this and many occasions, the CS rulebook has some ambiguities in it and they generally only surface when situations like this arise.
‘‘CS has noted this problem and will address it and update the rulebook prior to next season.’’
