Tallygaroopna’s premiership defence has been given a boost with the signing of midfield brute Josh Wellington.
The gutsy Wellington brings a strong pedigree with him, having spent time with the Shepparton Swans and Numurkah and most recently Katunga in the Picola District Football League.
It begins to address the Redlegs’ off-season departures, with Mitch and Dylan Sidebottom announced as Katunga signings and a clearance lodged for the duo’s brother Lachlan.
But it has been a summer featuring plenty of movement between the two clubs, with last year’s Katunga co-coaches Eamon Reeves and Daniel Burness heading to Tally.
Wellington played 46 senior games and kicked 24 goals with the Shepparton Swans between 2011 and 2013, before 51 games with Numurkah for 30 goals from 2015 to 2017.
Kevin O’Donoghue will again coach the Redlegs as they look to defend their Kyabram District Football League premiership.
●Silky Tatura midfielder Sean Martin has continued to make an impact in the Northern Territory Football League.
Martin was named Southern Districts’ second best player as they fell by 22 points to the Tiwi Bombers, a result that moved the Crocs to 10-4 for the season, second in the premier league.
He has been named in the best in five of his 12 matches playing for the same side Shepparton jet Nik Rokahr won an NTFL premiership with last season.
It was a big game for the region’s exports, with 2014 Finley grand final player Jess Koopman playing a leading role in kicking two goals for the Crocs.
Ed Barlow, who played for Finley last season, found a goal in his third game for the season.
