Richmond and Melbourne will go head-to-head during a JLT Community Series pre-season match in March next year.
The two teams will meet on Deakin Reserve on Sunday March 3 bringing AFL back to the region for the first time since Geelong and Essendon met on a sweltering day in 2016.
Shepparton is one of three regional locations to be selected and AFL Goulburn Murray regional general manager Jamie Macri said he was looking forward to the match.
"I'm really excited that through AFL GM we're lucky enough to host this JLT game," he said.
"We're really lucky that Deakin Reserve is a showcase for country footy and (Shepparton) has a facility that's so good (it can) host a game which is a credit to the region."

*Update: An earlier version of this article stated that Richmond would be playing North Melbourne. The Kangaroos were incorrectly stated as the side traveling up to play at a media announcement hosted by the Greater Shepparton City Council.
