While the best teams of the Murray football and netball leagues will be celebrated at Rumbalara’s Mercury Dve facility today, the best players have also been congratulated as the season draws to a close.
After the netball team of the year was announced at the organisation’s presentation night last month, the football squad of the season has also been released in the lead-up to today’s deciders.
Grand final combatant Nathalia is heavily represented, with five Purples named in the side along with Craig Kellow given the nod as coach of the year.
Fellow grand finalist Barooga has Brodie A’Vard and Billy Andrew starting in the team, while Rumbalara (three), Cobram (two) and Numurkah (two) are also represented in the squad multiple times.
In total, players from 13 of the 15 teams in the league earned spots in the side, with just Shepparton East and Katandra the unlucky parties to miss out.
On the premier netball court of the year there is also a large mix of players from different outfits.
Moama and Rumbalara lead the way with three representatives apiece, but after that Mulwala, Cobram, Echuca United, Deniliquin, Finley and Numurkah each have one player named.
Rumba leader Jess Bamblett received the nod as coach of the side, and would reprise her role as playing coach if the squad ever took to the court as she was also named as a sub.
