In-form Cats ready to pounce on Saints

By Lauren Bordin

Mooroopna starts raging favourite against Benalla with a host of Cats in stirling form as the Goulburn Valley League season nears finals.

Maddie Wong and Ash Lancaster have not dropped their standards across the season and will be important against lively Saints shooter Kelsey Rigg.

While Wong and Lancaster have been reliable for several years now, Dayna Williams is rising up the ranks with Jenny Barlow putting in time to improve the young player’s performance through the midcourt.

Williams was among the best players in the Cats’ big win against Mansfield before the bye.

The Saints’ most recent match was a rare victory when they snuck across the line against fellow cellar dweller Euroa.

But Mooroopna marks the start of a difficult run home for Pip O’Donoghue’s side with her charges to face Echuca and Shepparton in the remaining matches.

Grace Amarant, Britt Button and Kelsey Pallpratt are the Saints’ version of Wong and Lancaster with the trio’s leadership again needed in Benalla’s home match.

●Travelling to Kings Park is always a tough assignment, made even more difficult for Rochester with no Victorian Netball League this weekend leaving Seymour’s stars to wreak havoc.

But the Tigers showed positive signs in their loss against Tatura as Teaghan Bubb and Bridgette Holt helped keep the margin to eight goals.
