With second-placed Nagambie facing off against third-placed Stanhope, the Lakers ran to a 80-point lead by halftime, before pushing past the 100-point mark by three-quarter-time.
In a more competitive final quarter, the Lions were able to reel back the final margin to 98, but the earlier damage was fatal, and sealed one of the most comprehensive (and pleasing) wins for Nagambie this season.
With several players contributing down forward, the Lakers were able to produce the ultimate team effort, though it was Nathan and Blake Fothergill who impressed the most.
The Lakers remain second on the ladder behind the undefeated Tallygaroopna, and will face 11th placed Shepparton East away from home next round as it continues to build its strong resume ahead of finals season.
●It was three from three for Nagambie’s football department on Saturday, with the reserves squad celebrating a 40-point victory over Stanhope — 9.11 (65) to 3.7 (25). The win levels the Lakers’ seconds ledger, 4-4, and moves them into eighth place on the ladder. Nagambie’s Trent Gladwin was voted best on ground for his efforts, which included two goals. And Nagambie’s Under-18 team also got over the line, holding off a determined Stanhope by nine points on the weekend. Mitchell Lusted (three goals) and Nick Glentzes (two) combined down forward, while Jonathan Moore impressed enough to be named best afield in the 7.7 (49) to 5.10 (40) win.
