Showcasing community art

By Charmayne Allison

Seymour and District Community House threw open its doors recently for an open day.

Showing off the wide range of ways the venue can be used, the open day gave people the chance to see what this community resource is all about.

Ladies from the craft group offered a sneak-peek of their craft sessions, while paintings from the art group and Kidz Art program were also on display.

Co-ordinator Rose O’Sullivan hoped it would encourage many more groups and agencies to use the facilities.

‘‘The main use of the house is room hire,’’ she said.

‘‘If you have a group and need somewhere to meet, this is the place for you.

‘‘Agencies can also use the venue to meet clients.’’

As a non-threatening environment, Ms O’Sullivan said it was an ideal meeting spot.

‘‘We try to make it as comfortable as possible,’’ she said.

‘‘After all, community is what it’s all about and we want to see the community feel they can use this space.’’

The open day was funded by a grant from Mitchell Shire Council.
