Scales theft weighs heavily on go kart club

By Campaspe News

EARLY last week Rochester Go Kart Club was broken into, which has resulted in the club temporarily closing.

‘‘Some people got into the club and caused a bit of damage,’’ Rochester police Sergeant Dale Simm said.

‘‘They took a set of scales.

‘‘They made themselves a bit of a nuisance.’’

Last Saturday the club wrote on their facebook page the track will be ‘‘closed until further notice due to criminal damage’’.

The president of the Rochester Go Kart Club, Martin Golledge, hoped the damage would be quickly repaired.

‘‘The track is closed only due to the locks being cut off the gates and I have not been able to replace them as the security key type we use has to be accessible for all members,’’ he said.

‘‘The premises was broken into and the locks were cut on two gates and entry was gained to the tech shed by forcing the door.

‘‘Thieves have removed the electronic scales unit.

‘‘At this stage, that appears to be all that is missing.’’

Martin and his team were quick to take action after the thefts.

‘‘Most of our members are racing this weekend at Puckapunyal so it’s not urgent,’’ he said.

‘‘But we have arranged for the locks to be replaced so our members have access again.

‘‘And we will try to raise some funds to replace the stolen scales.’’
