Jonassen stars in Aussie women warm-up win

By AAP Newswire

Jess Jonassen has enhanced her position as Australia's chief spinner after taking three wickets in their win over an English academy side.

In one of two warm ups ahead of the women's Ashes, Jonassen claimed figures of 3-19 in the six-wicket win.

Rachael Haynes also hit an unbeaten 55 in Australia's chase of 185, as they took victory with just under eight overs to spare in the rain-reduced match.

But it was Jonassen who was the star.

Just over seven months after she didn't play a game in the successful World Twenty20 campaign following a shoulder injury, she has reclaimed her spot as Australia's first-choice spinner.

She got the key wicket of Bryony Smith for 68 caught behind, before taking two more late in her six-over stint.

The left-arm orthodox spinner also took 11 wickets at 10.27 in the one-day series win over New Zealand in the summer.

Fellow finger spinner Sophie Molineux was left out of Australia's main squad for the multi-formatted Ashes series, while they still have leggie Georgia Wareham and offspinning-allrounder Ashleigh Gardner at their disposal.
