Everyday heroes celebrated

A new television series highlighting the fantastic work of Victoria’s paramedics goes far beyond just providing entertainment.

The WIN Network show, which aired for the first time last week, gives audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the incredible lengths paramedics go to to give patients the best care.

At The News, we have been fortunate to witness this great work first-hand on many occasions.

While attending emergencies it is incredible to see the selfless care paramedics give to their patients.

With last week’s episode featuring Shepparton’s Herezo family, it was a reminder of how paramedics who work in regional areas can experience added difficulties.

Not only do regional and rural-based paramedics often face the heart-breaking scenario of arriving at a scene to treat someone they know, there is also longer distances to travel to reach patients and a lack of services that only metropolitan hospitals can offer.

In the case of Mackenzie, we see just how important it is to have both MICA as well as flight paramedics.

Mackenzie was treated by MICA paramedic Craig Hazelwood and Paramedicscast member and MICA Flight Paramedic Matt.

Without the care of all involved there could have been an incredibly different result and it shows just how vital having flight ambulance services is to areas such as Shepparton.

The News wishes to extend its sincere thanks and appreciation to paramedics locally and further afield and hopes the new series will shine a light on just how hard these everyday heroes work and how vital the service they provide is.
