Blue-green algae alert removed for Waranga Basin

By Madeleine Caccianiga

Goulburn-Murray Water has removed the blue-green algae warning for Waranga Basin following a decline in unsafe levels.

Two warnings have been issued since monitoring began, including a 23-day warning in 2017 and a recent warning that lasted more then four months.

G-MW will continue to do water quality monitoring and issue up to date warnings if levels are deemed unsafe by national health guidelines.

Warnings remain current for the Nagambie Lakes, Lake Eppalock, Cairn Curran Reservoir, Tullaroop Reservoir, the Rochester Irrigation area, channels seven, eight and nine in the Central Goulburn Irrigation Area, all Loddon Valley Irrigation Area channels east of the Loddon River and the East Loddon Water District.

Customers are reminded that water supplied by G-MW is not suitable for human consumption without first being properly treated.
