Athletes are gearing up for an annual highlight on Victoria’s regional running calendar.
The Shepparton Running Festival will see runners from across the region rally at the starting line to participate in the 33rd festival hosted by Shepparton Runners Club.
Hoping to take the August event to the next level, the club has formed a three-year partnership with Your Project Partner local event manager Liz Connick and experienced sports event manager Sean Greenhill from Mountain Sports Events who have jumped on board to ensure this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.
Club president Steve Ayton said he was thrilled to have the pair involved.
‘‘The Shepparton Runners Club is excited to be partnering with Liz and Sean for the next three years to deliver the annual Shepparton Running Festival. Significant work has been undertaken to position the festival well for the future and this partnership is another key milestone in that strategy,’’ he said.
‘‘We anticipate the event will continue to see good growth on the back of the success of last year’s event and with Liz and Sean’s guidance and experience, athletes can expect a superior experience during their time in Shepparton.’’
Being passionate runners, Mr Greenhill and Ms Connick said they looked forward to bringing their expertise to the table to assist the club with the event.
Mr Ayton said what started out as just 5km and 10km races in 1986 had expanded to reach and cater for people of all ages and abilities.
With a range of race distances on offer this year — from a 2km kids’ dash up to a full 42.2km marathon — Mr Ayton said he hoped to see community members and families getting in on the action by competing in a race distance that suited them.
