Around 9.30pm on Sunday, March 17 a female victim returned home and initially found her home undisturbed.
After a period of time the victim investigated a noise inside the house and was confronted by an unknown male standing inside a bedroom doorway.
According to a Victoria Police spokesperson she was feeding her cat at the back door when she heard a floor creak.
The female then went to investigate and located the unknown man.
The man punched the victim to the face before grabbing her by the throat with both hands, according to Victoria Police.
The victim managed to punch the man once before he scratched her arm and left the property via a side door.
He was described by the victim as having olive skin, being in his late 30's, medium build and approximately 180 cm tall.
The male was last seen exiting the front gate of the property into Mclennan St.
