A 12-year-old boy has been left devastated after his bike, scooter and helmet was stolen from his family campsite Sunday night.
The family of four had travelled up from Mornington for the long weekend on Saturday, only to pack up and leave before breakfast yesterday morning.
Mother Jenny Brenton said it was the family’s first visit to Shepparton.
‘‘We’ve had a great time and then we’ve noticed this morning and the way that it’s made us feel we’ve just packed up and left,’’ Mrs Brenton said.
‘‘We’re from England and we’ve lived in Australia for seven years - we think Australia is great and we have been camping for six and a half and this is the first time that anything like this has happened,’’ she said.
Mrs Brenton said her son Bruce wanted to visit Shepparton because he was keen to check out Aquamoves.
‘‘He’s devastate he saved up his birthday and Christmas money for that bike which he uses to ride to school - they’ve stolen his independence,’’ she said.
‘‘I don't know what we’re going to do now.’’
The family reported the theft to Shepparton police who are continuing inquires.
‘‘I’d like to think that somebody will realise that what they have done,’’ Mrs Brenton said.
‘‘We’re all going home quite sad.’’
The bike is a Trek Marlin 6 in red, lizard skin chain stain protector, a muckynutz mudguard and giro helmet.
Scooter is an Ethic Lindoworm Deck, black and green, envy grips, ethic Merrow fork and root re entry wheels.
