Community-owned company Environmental Diesel was launched last week by the drivers of the initiative, Danny Williams and Ian Dickson.
Mr Williams said there had been much interest in biofuels across the world, but Australia had been slower taking up the renewable fuel.
‘‘I’ve been trying to do this for many years and I came across Ian a few years ago and shared his passion,’’ he said.
Using a ‘‘BioCube’’, the biodiesel is produced with the used cooking oils and locally grown seed at a rate of 250 litres per hour.
Mr Williamssaid sustainable initiatives such as this created better fuel security across the nation and also created positive environmental outcomes.
‘‘It reduces your carbon output at the exhaust by 80 per cent compared to diesel,’’ he said.
While the fuel is acceptable to all heavy vehicles, Mr Williams said they had engaged with a fuel distributor who offered a blended version to farmers.
He said this enabled farmers to test the product first as some manufacturers were worried about voiding warranties of products.
