Total fire ban declared for Shepparton

By Shepparton News

The Country Fire Authority have declared today a total fire ban for the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central and South West forecast districts.

It is forecast to be hot to very hot and dry over northern and western Victoria today.

Westerly winds will tend more southwesterly and freshen during the afternoon, with stronger gusts in northwest Victoria.

Shepparton is set to reach a top of 44° today and a scorching 46° tomorrow.

A total fire ban is declared for the district by CFA on days when fires are likely to spread rapidly and could be difficult to control.

A total fire ban declaration means no fires can be lit for the declared district for that day - irrespective of the Fire Restriction status for a given municipality.

The CFA advises that you:

  • Action your Bushfire Survival Plan now.
  • Monitor the fire and weather situation through your local radio station, www.emergency.vic.gov.au and www.bom.gov.au.
  • Call 000 (Triple Zero) in an emergency.

If you are in an area of severe fire danger the CFA recommends that you:

  • Prepare your bushfire survival kit and finalise your plans.
