Search fails to find wanted fugitive

By Myles Peterson

A search for one of Australia’s most wanted fugitives was conducted in bushland this week between Shepparton and Mooroopna, Victoria Police has revealed.

Information supplied to police suggested alleged killer Jonathan Dick was hiding out in the area.

‘‘Police were in Shepparton earlier in the week after information was received in relation to the ongoing search for Jonathan Dick,’’ a spokesperson said.

‘‘This information has been investigated and found the person involved not to be Jonathon Dick.’’

Police helicopter activity on Sunday and Monday and subsequent searches by the Public Order Response unit fuelled speculation the operation related to a number of different incidents, but police remained quiet about the activity.

Dick is wanted over the alleged death of his brother David Dick in February 3, 2017.

He has evaded police for almost two years and a $100000 reward has been offered for information which leads to his capture.

‘‘The search for Jonathan Dick by detectives from the Fugitive Taskforce and Homicide Squad remains ongoing and anyone who sights him is asked not to approach and contact 000 immediately,’’ the spokesperson said.

Anyone with any other information about his whereabouts is urged to contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
