Marketplace shoppers dig deep for a cause

Shepparton Marketplace shoppers have made small contributions to result in big team effort.

Shoppers entering the Shepparton Marketplace on Saturday, August 18 were encouraged to donate a gold coin as part of a BIG Change for Small Change charity event.

Marketplace marketing manager Lyndal Ford said the Shepparton complex was one of ten Dexus managed shopping centres nationally to hold the charity event with all proceeds from the day going to the childrens ward at local hospitals.

Ms Ford said the Shepparton Marketplace staff were overwhelmed by the positive response of the public and a number of local businesses and organisations who also supported the event seeing $5496 raised for Shepparton’s Goulburn Valley Health childrens ward.

She said Specsavers were particularly supportive and played a major role on the day.

‘‘Specsavers donated $5 from every eye test on the day to the cause.’’

Goulburn Valley Health foundation director Carmel Johnson said the GV Health staff were very grateful for the efforts of the Marketplace and the generous donation.

‘‘GV Health is incredibly appreciative of the ongoing support we get from our community and in this case the Shepparton Marketplace.’’

‘‘This money will help us to buy a new specialised bed for the childrens ward,’’ she said.
