Legendary race caller Bryan Martin will visit Shepparton and Nagambie next month as part of the 16th annual Melbourne Cup tour.

While in town, Mr Martin will take part in a series of community events that will provide racing fans with the opportunity to get up close to the 18-carat gold trophy.

Selected for its passion for racing and community spirit, Shepparton will host the $200000 trophy on Friday, August 3, while Nagambie will host the coveted cup the next day.

Victorian Racing Club chief executive Neil Wilson said he was delighted to have Mr Martin involved in this year’s tour.

‘‘Each year, the Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour celebrates the heroes and stories intrinsically linked to the 158-year-old Lexus Melbourne Cup race,’’ Mr Wilson said.

‘‘Bryan Martin is an iconic figure in Australian racing and the Shepparton and Nagambie communities can look forward to Bryan sharing his unique Melbourne Cup stories while on tour.’’
