NAIDOC Week event salutes Aboriginal women

By Laura Briggs

NAIDOC Week celebrations have continued, providing people with lunch and insight into the lives of influential indigenous women.

The event, hosted at The Connection on Tuesday by The University of Melbourne Department of Rural Health, Primary Care Connect and Murray Primary Health Network, had the building packed to the rafters in celebration of this year’s NAIDOC theme ‘Because of her, we can’.

The event aimed to honour and acknowledge indigenous women.

It included guest speakers Aunty Gwen Atkinson, Sharon Jones and Natarsha Bamblett who shared their personal journeys, and the women who have influenced them during their lives.

The gathering was also treated to entertainment and indigenous-themed food.
