Shepparton police involved in foot-chase down mall

A 24-year-old man, formerly of Seymour, is in hospital under police supervision following a series of dramatic events in the Shepparton CBD today.

Shepparton Police allegedly attempted to serve a warrant on the man in vicinity of the court house area, who then fled.

A foot-chase ensued, leading down into the Maude St Mall, according to police.

The man allegedly climbed onto a roof to escape two pursuing officers.

Jumping on to a second roof, the man fell into a disused toilet block that been sealed off, according to police.

The two officers followed, and allegedly came under attack.

Other officers then broke into the abandoned building to help restrain the man.

One officer required hospitalisation as a result of the alleged attack, receiving a cut above his eye. The other officer received multiple bruises.

The alleged offender was taken to Shepparton Police Station and then transferred to Goulburn Valley Health due to injuries reportedly sustained in the fall.

The man allegedly faces serious charges according to police and may fall foul of proposed laws for assaulting emergency workers that carry mandatory jail time.
