It was a day for the grandparents at Verney Road School in Shepparton yesterday, celebrating story time with a positive twist.
The school invited grandparents, parents and special friends to join students for a reading of the book Room on our Rock and a morning tea.
Verney Road School teacher Donna Allen said the day was a great opportunity to invite visitors to the room and see how the school moved communication and visuals into learning.
She said Room on our Rock fitted in with the school’s Positive Behaviour in Schools program.
‘‘It’s about welcoming and including everyone which is a big part of being at Verney Road, everyone is welcome and everyone is included,’’ Ms Allen said.
The Foundation students viewed the book on their interactive white board.
‘‘The white board is more engaging for this age group but throughout the school some classes have got hard copies of the story,’’ Ms Allen said.
She said the chosen book engaged with students from the early education program through to 18-year-old VCAL students.
‘‘The book has a double meaning in that you read the story first as a negative and then when you read the book backwards it forms into a positive story,’’ she said.
Morning tea was served in every room with home-made cakes to share.
‘‘We made a gluten-free cake and a banana cake to share with our visitors,’’ Ms Allen said.
