Hundreds gather to farewell slain Vic mum

Phillip Island's close-knit community has gathered to farewell much-loved local psychologist Samantha Fraser, more than a fortnight after the mother-of-three was found murdered.

A bridge leading to the Victorian island and nearby streets has been adorned with white ribbons since the 38-year-old's July 23 death made national headlines.

On Friday, tearful guests carrying bunches of flowers were among about 400 people who attended the Phillip Island Adventure Resort auditorium for a memorial service.

Ms Fraser was found dead in her Cowes garage after failing to collect her children from school.

A 41-year-old man is charged with her murder.

Police described her death as a "crime that strikes the heart of our community", who launched a public appeal for information before her alleged killer's arrest.

The accused killer is due to face a Latrobe Valley magistrate on January 10.
