Webinar to suit small farmers

By Country News

Livestock Health & Biosecurity Victoria is holding a free webinar for small farm owners on Thursday, outlining what they need to know about buying, owning and selling livestock in Victoria.

Held in conjunction with Agriculture Victoria, the webinar includes a guide to using the correct tags and registering sheep, goats and cattle on the National Livestock Identification System.

It will also outline how traceability works and the importance of livestock owners in peri-urban regions understanding their responsibilities.

Veterinarian Patrick Kluver will discuss how biosecurity supports owning happy and healthy animals.

‘‘There is a lot of confusion about the requirements and responsibilities when owning a few sheep or a cow,’’ Dr Kluver said.

‘‘This webinar will demystify some of that in a no-nonsense manner.

‘‘Small farmers often have other employment or commitments off-farm, so it can be challenging keeping up-to-date with the latest information and requirements.’’

The webinar aims to increase small farm owners’ knowledge about their role in livestock disease management and prevention and provide tools to help.

The webinar will be held on Thursday, June 14 from 8pm to 9pm.
