It was a tight squeeze at the Shepparton Lifestyle Retirement Village’s function room yesterday with more than 200 people packing in for the Biggest Morning Tea.
Event organiser Jean Jones said it was the biggest one yet.
Having hosted the event for the first time in 2013 in honour of her sister-in-law who died of cancer, Ms Jones said each year numbers had increased and the event became a highlight for residents and community members.
Starting off with just 30 people who attended the first event, Ms Jones said the increasing support was incredible.
The morning tea had attendees indulging in all sorts of sweets and savouries while being entertained by a visiting choir — Sing Australia.
Goulburn Valley Health foundation director Carmel Johnson also attended the event and took the time to share with guests details about the expansions that were taking place at the hospital to ultimately provide improved services and accessibility for patients of the Shepparton region.
Ms Jones said the fundraiser was a wonderful success, with $4300 raised.
She said on top of that total, Lifestyle would also match the amount to double the proceeds that would go to the Cancer Council.
Ms Jones said she was thrilled to have many people who helped out in different ways to make the event special and play a part in supporting the important cause.
