Challenges of raising boys explored

By Madeleine Byron

Shepparton’s Fiona Wallace is taking to the stage for the first time on Friday to speak about her experiences raising three boys, hoping to inspire fellow parents at the #Life With Boys event.

The ‘‘empowering evening’’ also includes motivational content from guest speaker John ‘The Rev’ McMahon from MotoV8.

‘‘John is a teen boy motivator — he travels around Australia encouraging and inspiring parents and challenging the boys’ behaviour around any anger issues they may have,’’ Ms Wallace said.

‘‘He will talk about his own life experience growing up, which will be really inspiring, and then he will answer some of his most asked questions about rasing teen boys,’’ she said.

Ms Wallace said the night would include information about raising boys in the modern world.

Wanting to raise awareness of postnatal depression, Ms Wallace will speak publicly for the first time about her experiences.

‘‘I wanted to share my story and inspire other mums that are finding it difficult raising sons,’’ she said.

All proceeds from the night will go to Anglicare, a charity that raises money for children in foster care.

‘‘Along with entertainment by Molly Gordon and guest speakers, attendees will have the opportunity to connect with other parents,’’ Ms Wallace said.

‘‘It’s a chance to hear some inspiring stories, empowering parents, connecting and explaining how boys’ behaviour, learning and brains affect their choices.’’

The #Life With Boys event is upstairs at The Aussie Hotel, Shepparton, on Friday from 7pm to 9pm. Tickets are $35 and include food and a glass of sparkling wine on arrival. To book, phone Fiona Wallace on 0438316959. For information, follow ‘Life with Boys’ on Facebook.
