Birdlife members enjoy breakfast after bird walk

By Madeleine Caccianiga

RiverConnect and Birdlife Murray Goulburn members were up with the birds Tuesday morning to explore the Australian Botanic Gardens.

More than 30 people enjoyed an avian adventure, identifying the variety of birds which frequent the area before returning to a plate full of pancakes and fruit at the Turtle Garden.

RiverConnect project officer Meg Pethybridge said those who attended encountered several different bird species.

‘‘Everyone came together and shared their list of bird sightings and compared before uploading their survey on the ebird app,’’ she said.

Ms Pethybridge said the event was a really good opportunity to show people the revegetated space.

‘‘It’s a really good space and we’re lucky to have the president of the gardens here today and a few of the other members to advocate for the friends group,’’ she said.

‘‘And the tea and coffee and pancakes have gone down a treat.’’

More than 70 bird sightings were recorded from the breakfast, including 10 eastern rosellas, eight Australian ravens and five white-plumed honeyeaters.

The Breakfast with the Birds event was a free activity run through Greater Shepparton City Council’s Activities in the Park program.
