Club bests East

HEATHCOTE Bowling Club’s division three bowlers took on Bendigo East at home in hot conditions and recorded a crucial 19-shot win.

The result consolidates a position in the top four for Heathcote with just five games to go.

Division three: Heathcote 95 defeated Bendigo East 76.

John McGillivray 24 lost to N Kilby 25; Deryl Binney 19 def I Vlaminck 17; Bill Gardiner 24 def D Coles 15; Greg Speirs 28 def B Perryman 19.

John McGillivray’s team started well, leading by seven shots after 11 ends. John’s team then struggled though, to be only a shot ahead by the final end. The team lost two shots on the last end to lose by just a shot.

Deryl Binney’s team made an even start with scores level on the 7th, 19th, 21st and 23rd ends. The team scored three shots on the last end and defeated the opposition by two shots.

Bill Gardiner’s team started well and led by by 13 shots after 21 ends and despite losing the last four ends, held on to win by nine shots.

Greg Speirs’ team made a good start and were ahead by nine shots after nine ends. The team’s lead had decreased to four shots by the 19th end but fortunately, Greg’s team won four of the last six ends to record a nine-shot win.

Division six

Heathcote’s division six team travelled to Bendigo needing a win to get off the bottom of the ladder.

After eight ends, however, the temperature reached 38 degrees and the heat policy was evoked and the game was declared a draw.

Midweek Pennant Results.

Division two.

Heathcote travelled to Bendigo in very hot conditions needing to win to consolidate a position in the top four. Bendigo played several experienced players to ensure a win and defeated Heathcote by 23 shots.

Heathcote 55 lost to Bendigo 78.

Sharon Vowles 20 lost to L Aiello 28.

Chris Cail 21 lost to H Champion 23

Denise Anderson 14 lost to R Read 27

Sharon Vowles’ team stared well and lead by six shots after 13 ends.

However, despite the team’s best efforts, Heathcote then struggled losing five shots on the 23rd end to go down by eight shots.

Chris Cail’s team made an even start with scores level after eight ends. The team then struggled to trail by seven shots on the 19th end but won the last six ends to lose by just two shots.

Social Bowls

On Saturday, in warm and windy conditions, 18 bowlers took the opportunity to use social bowls as practice for the resumption of the pennant season.

After three games of pairs and triples the winners were Peter Cunningham (s) and Ellis Knight (three wins, 48 points, +26 shots).

Runners-up were Smokey Dawson (s) and Dot Cutajar (three wins, 43 points, +24 shots) from Chris Cail (s), Kelvin Hamilton and Dinah Finn (two wins, 1 draw, 37 points, +7 shots).

The jackpot was not won and will be $80 today.
