To be known as the ‘Snak Pak’, the new can is aimed at the school children’s lunch market.
It will be introduced at the grocers convention which opened last night in the exhibition building.
Commenting on the new can, SPC’s chairman John Cornish said it had been designed to encourage children to eat fruit.
He said the zip or ring pull meant the can was as easy to open as a can of soft drink.
It was compact enough to easily fit into a school lunch bag.
Peaches, pears and apricots, plus a two-fruit combination of pears and peaches make up the range in this handy size can, which will be available in a unit pack of four.
Mr Cornish said that besides providing a health addition to children’s lunches, the Snak Pak would be useful to all those who enjoy outdoor living.
Ideal for snacks, picnics and barbecues he expected the new fruit pack to open untapped markets at home and abroad.
The small size can would enable the contents to be consumed at one meal, preventing deterioration through storage after opening.
Mr Cornish added SPC was investigating the possible use of the Snak Pak for other products.
