More than 100 women packed the Berrigan Showgrounds function room for the shire luncheon.
Guest speaker and author Glenna Thomson spoke about her life and drew comparisons to the 2019 IWD theme of ‘Balance for Better’.
Berrigan library manager Anne Nevins said Mrs Thomson detailed her journey from a single mother to an author.
‘‘She had her first child at 18 and by 27 with three children Glenna was doing international aid and needed to rely on her mother to look after the children.
‘‘Glenna said she never knew she could write but one day decided to write a book and it’s turned out to be the right choice. She did joke it was her mother who helped her so now she helps her elderly mother,’’ Mrs Nevins said.
Berrigan Shire Mayor Matt Hannan told the audience he would like to see more women on the council, which has no female representation.
‘‘He planted the seed and once again it worked well with the theme,’’ Mrs Nevins said.
