The filming coincides with the first day of GoFish Nagambie, the fishing tournament Mr Worsteling is the event ambassador for.
One of the most recognisable faces in Australian recreational fishing, Mr Worsteling has reported live on 3AW, ABC, 2KY, countless other networks and co-hosted 3AW Melbourne’s Friday night fishing show for more than four years.
He also had a four-year stint as co-host on Rex Hunt Fishing Adventures, from 2000 to 2004, and started the popular IFISH program on Network Ten in January 2005. The show, in its 14th season, has had almost 500 episodes go to air.
Mr Worsteling has been entering fishing competitions since he was 12.
‘‘I’ve been lucky enough to win a few and I’ve also been spanked, but to me, although it’s a competition, it’s not just about catching fish. It’s about learning from other people,’’ he said.
He reminded people the GoFish Nagambie tournament was more than just a competition, it was an entire event.
‘‘I just like the idea that you can physically hang around with people who share the same passion as ourselves,’’ Mr Worsteling said.
Travelling to Nagambie recently for the first time, Mr Worsteling had been blown away by the town.
‘‘I’ve got to admit, I had never been to Nagambie and I’ve lived in Victoria for 45 years,’’ he said.
‘‘I love the fact that it’s so close to Melbourne; it’s an easy weekend or drive for anyone.
‘‘And when I got there, I just couldn’t believe the waterway.’’
Mr Worsteling encouraged people to register for the competition.
‘‘This competition is going to go on for a long, long time,’’ he said.
‘‘I’m hoping decades and decades and maybe one day my son Jet might even take his son to GoFish Nagambie.’’
Mr Worsteling will be joined by his wife Cristy and son Jet, who are both competing in GoFish Nagambie this weekend.
