Riverlinks Eastbank is showcasing Hitler’s Daughter, with a performance based on the 1999 children’s book by Australian author Jackie French.
It’s the second education performance in the 2019 series.
‘‘The performance is quite unique, switching between contemporary Australia and 1940s Nazi Germany,’’ Riverlinks performing arts and conventions manager at Ken Cameron said.
‘‘It looks at the effect of Hitler’s rule and how these events have shaped society, both then and now,’’ Mr Cameron said.
‘‘It challenges students to think about issues of tolerance and prejudice.’’
Hitler’s Daughter is a multi-award winning theatre work aimed at school students.
The play begins with four children waiting for the school bus one rainy morning. They decide to play a game of story-telling. One of the children begins to tell the tale of Heidi, daughter of one of the most dreaded men in history.
Caught in the turmoil of war, Heidi is hidden away by her father.
With the story culminating in the bombing of Berlin and the fall of the Third Reich, Heidi’s innocent and naive nature is ruined.
Hitler’s Daughter is performing at Riverlinks Eastbank on Tuesday, July 16, 12.30pm, and is suitable for ages 10-14.
Tickets cost $9 and are available online or through the Riverlinks Box Office on 58329511.
