The company will perform I AM, which director Kyla McGregor said explored the issues of self-worth and transforming the negative voices within through contemporary dance, while challenging the audience to accept their purpose, culture and belonging.
Ms McGregor said the piece would feature 17 dances with a unique soundtrack which reflected each time period.
She described the introduction to the performance as ‘‘atmospheric’’.
‘‘It then moves into more folky music then some hard hitting beats then more modern top 40 songs,’’ she said.
‘‘There’s something for everyone to grab a hold of.’’
The 45 to 50-minute performance also sees scenes of the natural environment contrasted with the modern, industrial world and explores the struggles within the modern world.
The performance was a collaborative piece, with the entire company contributing to the dances and, this year, Ms McGregor said they also appointed Abbigail Makin, 16, as assistant choreographer and James Noller, 19, as assistant junior director.
‘‘This was about giving them the exposure,’’ she said.
I AM will be performed on Saturday, March 23, from 7.30pm and Sunday, March 24, from 2pm. Tickets cost $29 and are available through the Riverlinks website or its box office on 58329511.
