Shepparton East Primary School students have been thinking inside, not outside, the box to help the less fortunate.
Senior students have taken part in the world-wide project Operation Christmas Child to provide children in need with gifts to unwrap at Christmas.
Operation Christmas Child is an initiative of Samaritan’s Purse, which has been collecting shoeboxes filled with gifts and distributing them to children across the world for 25 years.
School chaplain Mark Rumble said the students had collected about 30 boxes between the Years 4 to 6 students.
‘‘Our children here have chosen the age group that they are to buy gifts for, so they’ve collected a heap of gifts and boxed them up with letters,’’ he said.
He said the boxes would be sent off to Melbourne next month before being distributed to children in need.
Mr Rumble was thrilled to see the students putting thought and care into their gifts.
