Grahamvale PS footy dress-up day

By Ashlea Witoslawski

The grounds of Grahamvale Primary School were filled with colour for the school’s annual football dress-up day.

Coinciding with AFL finals, the Junior School Council and school community decided their fundraising efforts would be best donated to Challenge, an organisation that supports children and families living with cancer.

Challenge was also chosen in memory of local golf legend Jarrod Lyle who was an ambassador for the charity.

Jarrod’s nephew and Grahamvale PS Foundation student Jensen Balnaves brought along Leuk the Duck, the mascot of Challenge, to inspire the other students.

Grahamvale PS principal Simone Higgins said it was a great day and ‘‘everyone got in the spirit’’.

Students took part in a parade, standing up with their fellow supporters to the sounds of their team’s theme song.

Mrs Higgins said the most popular team was Richmond, followed by Essendon.

The school raised more than $350 for Challenge.
