Mooroopna Secondary College’s choir has been practising singing words their teachers may not agree with.
‘‘We don’t need no education,’’ will ring out across WestSide in Mooroopna as the children join Echoes of Pink Floyd — Australia’s largest Pink Floyd concept show.
Mooroopna Secondary College music teacher Leona Gibbs said the choir consisted of some of the school’s music students as well as a few children from other high schools in the district.
‘‘They’re looking forward it — it’ll be something different for them,’’ Ms Gibbs said.
Iconic tune Another Brick in the Wall is almost 40 years old, but the students were familiar with the song and knew the lyrics well.
‘‘Being able to sing alongside a professional rock band will be really exciting for them,’’ Ms Gibbs said.
And Echoes of Pink Floyd’s lead vocalist Matt Goodluck said they were just as excited to perform with the students.
‘‘It’s such a high point of the show when we get to work with these kids,’’ Mr Goodluck said.
‘‘Most people are familiar with the song — it’s a monumental smash.
‘‘So we thought wouldn’t it be a great idea to involve kids on stage and the local community — it’s worked out so well and for the audience it’s a big surprise or a real thrill.’’
He said the cameo was also a way to get children and teenagers to appreciate classic rock music.
Ms Gibbs said although the students were excited to perform, there were some nerves building among the group.
‘‘We’ll do a sound check with them on the day and then perform with them at night,’’ she said.
The two-hour concert will be on July 14 at Riverlinks WestSide, Echuca Rd, Mooroopna from 8pm. Tickets cost $75 (full), $70 (concession) or $45 (under 18 years). To book, visit www.riverlinksvenues.com.au or phone 5832 9511.
