INDEPENDENT candidate for the NSW seat of Murray David Landini has a radical solution for the ‘‘ongoing disaster’’ of this electorate: separating from NSW and forming a new Riverina state.
It’s a bold proposal that has led the former Nationals Deniliquin branch chairman to run as an independent against his old party in this month’s state election.
A Nationals member for almost 10 years before his resignation in 2017, Mr Landini watched as massive regional electorates like Murray struggled to be heard in parliament over dominant metropolitan hubs.
He believes the solution is to form a new Riverina state that will interact with the Commonwealth and other state governments as a state in its own right, increasing the capabilities of the people in the Riverina.
