Expected to get tummies rumbling across the region, and cooks (or wannabe chefs) busy in the kitchen, the event is on Friday, March 29 from 6pm at St Mary’s Parish Centre.
And group co-chair Christine Sebire said everyone — locals, visitors, and most importantly people from different cultural backgrounds — is invited to attend.
‘‘The idea is to provide networking for people who might be feeling isolated in our community,’’ she said.
‘‘And for people to meet with other people from diverse backgrounds and in doing so, strengthen our community bonds.’’
Ms Sebire said Campaspe Shire had provided $800 in funding to establish the night.
‘‘That will help us to go further and we will have support (both cash and in-kind) from the Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Support Services,’’ Ms Sebire said.
‘‘Because we’ve had such generosity from Campaspe Shire we probably don’t have to rely too heavily on other organisations, that means we can think a bit bigger.’’
Ms Sebire said people should bring food to share but she was, at this stage, unsure of the numbers expected on the night.
‘‘People can bring food that reflects their cultural background,’’ she said.
‘‘As people come they will be greeted by a hostess or host then we will facilitate conversations across tables so people can network and get to know each other.
‘‘We’re hoping we might have musical entertainment but we’re still working on that.
‘‘There will be activities for children so families can relax into the evening and connect with adults while their children are busy.
‘‘I think we’re going to have students from Echuca College and St Joseph’s participating so that’s really exciting too.
‘‘And while we’re hoping to get people from a broad cultural background, we hope long-term Echuca people see this as an opportunity to enhance their involvement in the community too.’’
