Jon Lam’s watercolour Berth Day is part of a mini-exhibition in the paper’s foyer.
Each month a local artist is invited to use the space and while several works from previous exhibits have sold, this is the first to be sold online and to go interstate.
Riverine Herald community relations manager Sarah Crossman said the mini-exhibits had been the brainchild of receptionist Sue Raccanello and have been running since the paper relocated from its Hare St office to 28 Percy St in March last year.
She said Jon Lam’s works have been on display in the Riv foyer for several weeks.
‘‘We rotate the artists every four-to-six weeks and see this as an excellent opportunity for them to display their works and for us to have a constantly fresh and attractive feature in our reception area,’’ Sarah said.
The buyer, who wished to remain anonymous, said she saw the piece on the Riv Facebook page, and decided to purchase it.
“A friend had shared a piece from the Riv on Facebook, and the story brought me to the main page, where I saw the painting,” she said.
“It’s a beautiful painting, we love the images of the boats.
“My husband and I have just moved to the east coast of Tasmania and a home on the waterfront, so we think the piece would be perfect for our new home.”
